About

Angus Chan is currently pursuing an MPhil in Linguistics and Language Sciences at the University of Cambridge. Prior to his postgraduate studies, he was employed at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) as the Programme Manager and a Teaching Assistant in the School of English and as the Research Manager of the Research and Impact Initiative on Communication in Healthcare (RIICH). He completed his BA in English Studies at HKU, with a year abroad as a visiting student in English Language and Literature at the University of Oxford. His research interests centre broadly on sociolinguistics, with particular foci in historical sociolinguistics (from the eighteenth century to the present day), lexical sociolinguistics and World Englishes (especially in East Asian contexts). He also conducts discourse analytic research, focusing on genres of mass and professional communication. Within this area, his current topics of interest are bureaucratic, environmental and health discourses. At present, Angus serves as an advisory board member for a Hong Kong Research Grants Council Collaborative Research Fund project entitled, "University graduates' transitions to post-covid-19 workplaces: The impacts of the pandemic and adjusting to ""new normal"" work orders" (C7075-23W).
