Dr. Lorenzo Gitto is an Assistant Medical Examiner, Forensic Pathologist, Research Director, and International Observership Program Coordinator at the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office in Chicago, IL, a position he has held since July 2023. Board-certified in Anatomic Pathology (2022) and Forensic Pathology (2023), he earned his medical degree and completed a residency in Legal Medicine and Forensic Pathology at Sapienza University of Rome in 2016. After moving to the U.S. in 2018, Dr. Gitto worked as a Research Scholar in Pathology and completed his Anatomic Pathology residency at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY, followed by a fellowship in Forensic Pathology at Cook County. Dr. Gitto has extensive academic involvement as a visiting professor and guest lecturer in forensic pathology, with over 90 publications in forensic journals, books, and online platforms. He has received awards from the National Association of Medical Examiners for outstanding research in 2020 and 2022. As Research Director, he supervises research for students, residents, and medical professionals, contributing to publications and conference abstracts. An active member of professional organizations, Dr. Gitto serves in leadership roles at annual conferences and symposiums and is an editorial board member for several forensic pathology journals.
