I have over 25 years of work experience as a research engineer, professor, administrator, and consultant. I received a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from Yildiz Technical University in Istanbul, Turkey in 2000. I was a post-doctoral researcher at the University of South Alabama, between February 2005–August 2006 where I was involved with the DOE funded project in Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Infrastructure Technologies. From 1995 to 2014, I have worked at different positions including a Research Assistant, Assist. Professor, and Assoc. Professor of Electrical Engineering Department at the YTU. Finally, I served as a full Professor of Electrical Engineering from 2014 to 2016. In addition to these, I was appointed as secondment to the full Professor and President of Burch University in Bosnia and Herzegovina between 2013 and 2015. I was also an associate member of the Turkish Academy of Sciences between 2011-2014.
My research experience covers various interdisciplinary areas to address the future energy challenge including smart grids, sustainable and renewable energy resources, energy storage (battery and ultracapacitor) technologies, hybrid and electric vehicles, fuel cell systems applications, modeling, analyzing, and implementations of hybrid alternative energy systems, hydrogen-based energy systems, microgrids, hydrogen powered vehicles, and power quality. I have contributed significantly to developing novel energy management algorithms for smart grids/homes, electric and hydrogen powered vehicles, and sustainable and renewable energy resources. In addition, I have contributed to the solution of many interdisciplinary problems by applying electrical engineering principles. I have published more than 150 scholarly research articles, books, conference papers, and most of these are published in highly reputable, peer-reviewed scientific journals with high impact factors. My research work has been cited more than 5,636 times with an h-index of 34 as of today. I am also listed in the worldwide top 2% scientists in the Energy topic area, ranked by the Stanford University.
I have intensive project experience which I served as the PI, Co-PI or researcher is many national and international research projects. I completed 14 research projects with total budget exceeding $1M. The projects I have involved with have a high commercialization potential. To name a few, I have a granted patent entitled "A smart building system with energy management," which is also filed for international patent application (WO 2015/084285 AI).
