About
I research into matter that is structured on the nano-scale to micro-scale using NMR relaxation, NMR cryoporometry, neutron scattering and x-ray scattering. In particular, I study the properties of liquids in nano-metric pores. I am the director of a micro-SME nano-science and nano-metrology research company Lab-Tools Ltd. , that also develops cutting-edge instrumentation including highly compact NMR relaxometers for desktop and field use. I have held positions at Kent University and a fellowship at the Institute of Petroleum Engineering at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, Scotland.

Lab-Tools is a spin-off company speciallising in nano-science and nano-metrology. Lab-Tools Techniques : Nano-science : Nano-scale properties of liquids in pores and at interfaces. Nano-metrology : Bulk nano-scale to micro-scale characterisation; NMR Cryoporometry and neutron scattering techniques. The main technique to be applied and developed : NMR Cryoporometry is a recent technique for measuring and studying porous materials on the nano- to micro-scale. It can also analyse densely packed particles. Materials studied to date : Sol-gel & CPG silicas, MCM templated silicas, SBA templated silicas, Activated carbons, Zeolites, Fired & unfired clays, Marine Sediments, Chalks, Shales, Sandstones, Oil-bearing rocks, Cement, Concrete, Wood, Paper, Rubbers, Artificial skin, Melanised fungal cells, Meteorites.

Research into the properties of nano-structured liquids and solids.
Honorary Research Fellow then Research Fellow
Heriot-Watt University February 2006 - 2012
Research into the properties of nano-structured rocks, of liquids confined in rocks and of gas hydrates confined in sediments. The aim is to increase recovery from gas and oil from reservoirs, and to investigate possibilities and dangers inherent in gas hydrates in marine and other environments.
