My group and I develop plate kinematic reconstructions, and particularly restorations of intensely deformed subduction plate boundary zones. We develop new approaches to absolute plate motion reconstructions, and study modern whole-mantle structure and interpret connections to long-term sudbuction history. We develop and use structural and paleomagnetic techniques for orogen and plate reconstructions. We use these reconstructions for 1) inspiration, boundary conditions, and test cases for geodynamic; 2) economic geological prospecting of subduction plate boundaries; 3) global paleogeography as boundary condition for paleoceonography and paleoclimate modeling.
