Research Scientist with  31 years (post PhD) experience in the Academic, Biotech/Phamaceutical and Government sectors (USA, UK and Canada).

 

40 years postgraduate experience working in many aspects of Virology, 38 of those years on emerging infectious diseases (mainly viral) from RNA viruses (California Encephalitis, Human Parainfluenza Virus type 3, Vesicular Stomatitis Virus and Korean Hemorhagic Fever) to Retroviruses (HIV, HTLV, SFV, SIV).  My activities ranged from Basic and Molecular Virology to Antiviral and Vaccine development.

 

Peer reviewer and Chair of Peer review committees for the NIH/NIAID (USA), CIHR (Canada), CANFAR (Canada), AIDS Fonds (Netherlands) on HIV research and development related to HIV vaccines, HIV Topical Microbicides and HIV therapeutics.  Scientific Officer evaluating proposals submitted to the Atlantic Innovation Fund/Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency

 

Specialties: Laboratory research direction (technicians, students and PD/MD fellows).  Level 3 containment laboratory design and management.  Chair Science Review Committees at Health Canada and NIH (USA).  Provide strategic science advice to senior level government decision makers.  

 

Teach Virology and Vaccinology at University.  Teach Science Policy at Graduate School level.
