Fahmi Muhammad Ridwan is Associate Professor in the School of Environmental Engineering, University Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), Malaysia. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from University of Sumatera Utara, Indonesia and his Masters and PhD degrees in Environmental Engineering from Hiroshima University, Japan. Fahmi has more than 30 years working experiences in engineering education, covering research, teaching and curriculum development, mainly related to water and wastewater engineering. He has also gained professional experiences in wastewater, water supply and sanitation section joining UNICEF, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC) and Save the Children (an NGO) that providing assistance for tsunami impact areas in Indonesia. His expertise includes designing and monitoring the construction of small scale water treatment plant, landfill, sludge treatment plant, hand dug well and water distribution system. He played a role as Environmental Engineer in 2008 for Midterm Evaluation for USAID/ Environmental Service Program in Indonesia. Fahmi has studied and researched ozonation and other advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) in combination with biological treatment used in drinking water treatment. He has been performing batch and continuous treatment mode in bench and pilot scale treatability research for optimization and design of treatment processes for many years. Currently, his focus has always been on applied research that can be used to improve water and wastewater quality. Fahmi’s research group at UniMAP was renowned for their work preparing Lake Brief for Tasik Beris in Kedah, Malaysia and Source Identification and Modelling of Total Organic Carbon (TOC) in Catchment of Sg. Muda, Kedah for Kulim Hi-Tech Park (KHTP), Malaysia. He is a past chair of Postgraduate Program at School of Environmental Engineering, UniMAP. He is also a chartered engineer (CEng) and member of Institution of Chemical Engineers (MIChemE).
