My team is working on fundamental research in RNA biology with a focus on RNA binding proteins and translation. We are also exploring novel applications of RNA to other fields such as material science (RNA origami, RNA hydrogels), environmental microbiology (metatranscriptomics/portable equipment), and 3D imaging (3D gene expression, data reconstruction from histology sections). We are open to crazy ideas from students, and do not hesitate to take the opportunity to explore other fields of science; one of these projects focuses on the biomimetics of microstructured surfaces such as shark skin. Feel free to contact us if you are interested in collaborating on any of the aforementioned topics.
Teaching lab practice / basic biology (in Japanese or English) to students from various majors using tardigrades, 3D printers, and several types of microscopes. Assisting with the organization of interdisciplinary events both within and outside of Japan.
