About
K. Khairurrijal obtained Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Physics and Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Physics from Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) in 1989 and 1993, respectively, under the supervision of Prof. Moehamad Barmawi, Ph.D.(deceased on October 19, 2014). His undergraduate final project was on the syntheses of amorphous hydrogenated carbon (a-C:H) thin films using microwave plasma-assisted chemical vapor deposition generated by a microwave oven. For the master degree, his thesis was on the synthesis of porous silicon using an electrochemical method and its characteristics. He then pursued doctorate degree in the Graduate School of Engineering of Hiroshima University to study ultrathin silicon dioxide for advanced metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs). Under the supervision of Prof. Masataka Hirose, Ph.D, he obtained Doctor of Engineering (Dr.Eng.) in 2000.

He began his professional work as a candidate of civil servant (CPNS) in 1991 at Department of Physics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), ITB. In 1993, he was appointed as a Research Assistant (Asisten Ahli Madya) and elevated as a Research Associate (Asisten Ahli) two years later. To pursue doctorate degree, he then moved to Hiroshima University, Japan. After having returned to home country, he was then promoted as an Assistant Professor (Lektor) at the same institution (ITB) in late 2001. Further promotion as an Associate Professor (Lektor Kepala) was received in late 2005. Finally, in the middle of 2010, he became a Professor of Physics of Materials and Instrumentation. In addition, he is a member of Board of Researchers in the field of instrumentation for disaster management at Research Center for Disaster Mitigation, Institute for Research and Community Services, ITB. He is also a member of Board of Researchers in the field of nanotechnology for drugs and foods at Research Center for Bioscience and Biotechnology, Institute for Research and Community Services, ITB.

His involvements in the institutional development were started as the Vice Head of Electronics & Instrumentation Laboratory at Department of Physics, ITB, in 2001. One year later, he was appointed to be the Head of Electronics & Instrumentation Laboratory. He was then elevated as the Secretary of Department of Physics in 2004 for two years. In 2006, he served as the Manager of Community Services and Partnership of FMIPA, ITB, till 2011. In addition, he became the Chairman of Physics of Electronic Materials Research Division in the period of 2008-2010. He also served as the Secretary of Faculty Senate in 2010 and a Senator at ITB's Academic Senate in 2010-2011. He has then been appointed as the Secretary of Institute for Research & Community Services (LPPM), ITB, in Jan 2011-Jan 2015. Since Feb 2015, he has been as the Director of Institute for Research & Community Services (LPPM), ITB.
