Marilia Coutinho is a biologist, ecologist, biochemist, a Ph.D. in sociology and an athlete and writer. She has completed the early stages of her academic career at the University of São Paulo, in Brazil. Her post-doc was done at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, in Blacksburg, VA, and she was a visiting professor at the University of Florida, in Gainesville.
