About
40+ years a building scientist: interested particularly in modelling 'BIM Cameos' (since 1992) for healthy, sustainable workplaces. Involved in building performance simulation since '85 after sabbatical at the EMPA in Zuerich and SERI (now NREL) in Colorado. A 1980s IEA research collaboration resulted eventually in "Designing Comfortable Homes". Another resulted in a CIE publication on daylight program validation. Most recently I co‐led a research focused on Net Zero Energy Buildings .

International Energy Agency (IEA) October 2008 - Present
"net zero energy", "zero net energy", "net zero carbon" or "EQuilibrium" buildings are poorly understood terms. Missing is a clear definition and international agreement on the measures of building performance for use in design and government policy.
Participant - New Zealand Representative
International Energy Agency (IEA) September 2001 - Present
To ensure that daylit buildings become the preferred option this millennium, we need to optimise energy savings by integrating daylighting, control systems and occupant response and transferring this new research to design professionals and industry.
Participant - New Zealand Representative
International Energy Agency (IEA) September 1995 - Present
More daylight conscious architectural solutions and the introduction of innovative daylighting systems and efficient lighting controls can displace a considerable part of this electricity consumption by utilizing the natural resources offered by daylight.
Participant - New Zealand Representative
International Energy Agency (IEA) January 1982 - Present
The participants in Task 8 studied the design integration issues associated with using passive solar and energy conservation techniques in residential buildings. Emphasis was placed on performance data, design information and design tools.
