Currently, I am working as a Full Professor (structural engineering, materials, and construction) in the civil engineering department, University Technology PETRONAS, Malaysia. I have experience of over thirty years as an academic & industry professional in research, teaching, and consultancy. My research experience and interest focused on the futuristic concrete technology, including geopolymer concrete, engineered cementitious composites, fiber-reinforced concrete, and cementing for oil-well integrity, structural rehabilitation, & retrofitting, low-carbon and green construction, materials modeling, structural analysis & FEM, and Building Information Modeling (BIM).
During my association with university PETRONAS since 2001, I have also assumed a few administrative roles in addition to my primary responsibilities. From 1st July 2014 until 30th September 2017, I have served as the Director of Research on Sustainable Research Cluster. In that role, I supervised more than 70 faculty members from across the disciplines. Since 1st January 2014 until today, I also served as the Chairman of the Innovation Committee under the Technology Transfer Office of the university; its primary functions involve evaluation, monitoring, and control of IP filing (patent, copyright, industrial design, etc.), evaluating the applications for the internal research grants and external industry funding.
During my academic career, as of today, I have supervised more than 40 postgraduate students by research mode (MSc. and PhD.). I have secured more than 3 million US$ equivalent amount of funding under 20 different research grants sponsored by the Malaysian Government Funding, Private, and International Research grants.
During my career in the industry, I have worked in the field of structural design engineering; in that capacity, I have developed several design solutions of tall building structures, bridges, and road pavements. My diversified experience in the research & development, academia, and the construction industry can be fitted in the multiple types of situations, such as research management, higher-level academic, upper management in civil engineering related industry.
