Bio: Tariq Elyas is an Associate Professor of Applied Linguistics at King Abdulaziz University (KAU), Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He holds an MA in English Literature and a PhD in Applied Linguistics. Dr. Elyas was awarded the British Chevening Fellowship in International Law and Human Rights as well as the Summer-Post-Doctorate in Applied Linguistics from the British Commonwealth Council. Dr. Elyas’ areas of interests include Global English, Teacher Identity, Policy Reform, Media Studies, and Women Studies in the Middle East. His research papers have appeared in leading international journals such as British Journal of Middle Eastern Studies, Digest of Middle East Studies, Contemporary Review of the Middle East, Journal of Arab & Muslim Media Research, World Englishes, Asian Englishes, and ELT (OUP), Sage Open as well as a contribution to the (2018) TESOL Encyclopedia of English Language Teaching. He was awarded the 2008 Bundey Prize for English Verse in Australia. Dr. Elyas was recently recognized and awarded the best supervisor in the Humanities & Social Sciences Track at KAU in 2018.
