The empowerment and skills development in preparing women for senior and executive positions in the tourism section, has been neglected in a Post-Apartheid South Africa. Therefore, I have been actively involved in the training of women for the sector through either the Executive Development Programme for Women in Tourism, capacity building workshops or formal programmes offered by the University of South Africa. Little is known about women’s behaviour and the challenges they encounter to be eligible for appointment in managerial positions. As an Associate Professor with a DCom in Leadership Performance and Change, and Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) the empowerment of women through education is the focus of my research. Specifically, to learn more about women’s behaviour when they engage in online learning, which variables impacts their successful development, and how education empower women in tourism (#WIT) to apply for executive positions.
