About
I am interested in the development of clean energy sources. The focus of my own science and technology research is controlled fusion; my research has focused on turbulent transport of particles, momentum and heat in these systems, and plasma-material interactions that occur at the boundary of these systems. Also have an interest in system-level issues surrounding all energy systems that can lead to deep decarbonization of the human energy system, and collaborate with other faculty on advancing the science and technology as well as the economics and policy aspects of a wide variety of carbon-free energy sources. I am on the faculty at UC San Diego in the Jacobs School of Engineering and currently serve as the Associate Dean of Engineering.
