Manjula K. Wanniarachchige is a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Management and Finance of the University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka. He graduated from the University of Ruhuna with a B.B.A. (Accounting) Degree in 2003. He earned his Ph.D. and MBA from the Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University in Japan. He has been awarded the Certificate of Merit for the Outstanding Quality of the Doctoral Thesis as well as with the Certificate of Merit for the Outstanding Quality of the Master’s Thesis from Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University in 2012 and 2009 respectively. He is a recipient of the Monbukagakusho scholarship of the Japanese government for his postgraduate studies.
Dr. Wanniarachchige teaching includes Financial Management, Financial Institutions and Markets, Computer Applications in Accounting, and Project Management. His research studies are mainly centered in the fields of financial intermediation and banking with a particular focus on developing economies. They include topics such as bank ownership, financial system competition, bank performance, financial regulation, effects of financial crisis, civil war and the effects of macro factors on financial systems.
Dr. Wanniarachchige has published numerous scholarly articles mainly covering Sri Lanka and India and has presented at numerous international conferences held in different parts of the world. He has co-edited a book for Routledge International Studies in Money and Banking series. Further, Dr. Wanniarachchige has served in many editorial boards of journals and international and local conferences and contributed to a number of international journals as a peer reviewer. He has served as the Head of the Department of Accounting and Finance of the Faculty of Management Finance. At present, Dr. Wanniarachchige serves as the coordinator of the MBA program conducted by the Faculty of Graduate Studies of the University of Ruhuna.
