Sabrina Lo Brutto, Ph.D. in Animal Biology, is currently Professor in Zoology and she is the coordinator of the UNIPA team involved in the action "Biodiversity and society: communication, education and social impact" within the National Biodiversity Future Center - NBFC. She has been Director of the Museum of Zoology "Doderlein" of the University of Palermo (Italy) for six years. She has been the Tutoring and Communication Delegate for the Life Science Degree at the University of Palermo. She is now a Member of the Executive committee of the Unione Zoologica Italiana (UZI) and Coordinator of the DIDI (Science Dissemination) group of the Società Italiana di Biologia Marina (SIBM). She is Associate Editor for the Marine Biology section of Frontiers in Marine Science journal and a Member of the Editorial Board of Diversity journal. She has been invited as Guest Editor for Special Issues. She is a Thematic Editor for the World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS).
Her past and current research areas of interest have been Phylogeography and Population Genetics of terrestrial and, mainly, marine animal species. She worked mostly on marine Mediterranean species, including invasive alien species. Her recent research focuses on the Taxonomy and Phylogeography of crustacean amphipods, a dominant animal group of marine ecosystems.
